Small bite, big threat: Protect yourself from vector-borne diseases
Mosquitoes, ticks, sandflies, freshwater snails. Malaria, dengue, leishmaniasis, schistosomiasis. Just a few of the many vectors and the diseases they spread globally, including throughout the Western Pacific Region. “Small bite, big threat” is the theme of this year’s World Health Day — celebrated on 7 April to mark the anniversary of WHO’s founding in 1948. Each year a theme is selected that highlights a priority area of public health concern in the world.
