  • PNG EMT training 2024 (134)
    Stella Tricker, a physiotherapist with the National Capital District's Provincial Health Authority, in discussion with fellow Emergency Medical Team members about potential emergency scenarios, as part of capacity-building exercises to prepare and respond to health emergencies. WHO works with the Papua New Guinea government and other partners to strengthen preparedness and response for public health emergencies. In December 2024, WHO supported the Papua New Guinea Emergency Medical Team (PNG EMT) to train new members, including physicians, nurses and logisticians.  A strong local Emergency Medical Team ensures that the government can prepare for and respond to public health emergencies quickly and effectively . KukiMAT is composed of a group of dedicated medical and public health professionals who are always ready to respond to emergencies and disasters.     A simulation exercises was conducted in Chuuk State, Federated States of Micronesia, in collaboration with the Federated States of Micronesia Emergency Medical Team (EMT). The training was facilitated by World Health Organization Western Pacific Region, with the assistance from Korea Disaster Relief Team (KDRT). Reorganizing cache and equipment to bring ashore.     The World Health Organization conducted a pre-verification visit to the Philippines Emergency Medical Assistance Team in preparation for the international verification of the team. The objective of pre-verification visit is to check that all the necessary elements are in place to proceed to the next phase. This includes all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and relevant documents, a list of equipment ready to be deployed and the complete trained staff roster. At present, three Department of Health (DOH) hospitals are undergoing WHO-classification, namely Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital (JBLMGH), Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium (DJNRMHS), and Eastern Visayas Medical Center (EVMC).
